As I prepare for my 5th trip to India, I am excited to share this experience with a whole new community of students! Each time I travel to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute (RIMYI – named for BKS Iyengar’s late wife) I am bathed in new knowledge and light of yoga … all of which I pass along to the students and the community of yogis around me.
Daily practice and class adds up to around 5 hours per day and with the celebrations of BKS Iyengar’s centenary year, I look forward to any additional offerings that have been popping up throughout the year at the institute and beyond. Geeta Iyengar (daughter), Prashant Iyengar (son), and Abhijata Sridhar Iyengar (granddaughter) all teach at the institute along with many other teachers that have spent decades studying and practicing directly with BKS Iyengar. Each time I have gone, usually 3 years apart, there is always something fresh and new being offered.
India itself is also such an amazing experience! I LOVE it and have done my best to travel beyond Pune with each trip. This year I look forward to planning a trip to Bellur, BKS Iyengar’s birthplace. It is a pilgrimage of sorts to see this place that has been completely transformed by the generosity of yogis from around the world at the urging of BKS Iyengar…schools, a temple devoted to Patanajali (the only one in the world), and the yoga center where now large events can take place.
I will be traveling with my good friend, Jen Kagan, and I look forward to our adventure together in this place we both adore.
I will of course be blogging regularly and sharing posts of my experience. I will also be adding a strictly email newsletter to the mix, so if you know people who do not “do” social media, but might want to follow along on this journey, let me know!
So, blogging may be slow for the next couple of weeks as I get all my last minute errands and appointments done…but once my feet hit the tarmac to fly on out, I will be eager to share all I learn and experience…stay tuned…
